Can you tell I’m excited about Fishs Eddy coming to Hammertown? Who wouldn’t be thrilled to be the only store in the Hudson Valley to carry their products? I’ve known Fishs Eddy owners, Julie and David Gaines for many years and have always loved their stores.
Their retro, vintage hotel dishware and glassware (in both old and new designs) are so hip and their double-fired, commercial grade restaurantware has become their hallmark. And to think– it all started with an old blue pick-up truck and what Julie and David call a “youthful sense of adventure.”
About 20 years ago, Julie and David were driving through the Midwest (in their pick-up truck) looking for “unusual finds” and they found one: an old barn filled with old hotel, restaurant and diner dishware…stacked several feet high. The barn had almost burned down but the dishes were in surprisingly good condition. They could have all the dishes…all they had to do was cart them away…in the blue pick-up truck!
Borrowing the name, Fishs Eddy, from a small Upstate New York hamlet, they started their business. They grew it into the store we know and love today through “hard work and a passion for dish and glassware rooted in American authenticity”.
Though a business evolves and changes for the times, Julie and David have stayed true to their original vision, which is:
To only commit to “wares” that are tried and true and stand the test of time. To be eclectic and free thinking. To know that in the kitchen, the rules should be breakable, not the dishes. And most importantly…to always have some good old fashion fun!
Their vision really resonates with our vision of Hammertown – we feel passionate about what we do; we are committed to quality products; we’re open to new ideas and we always…always… want our customers to have fun when they come into our stores.
