Get Involved Locally…Your Vote CAN Make a Difference

It’s almost over! The political signs on roadsides and lawns around the region that multiplied like rabbits are beginning to look a little weathered.

"Divided We Fail"

They run the gamut from Presidential candidates to Congressional candidates to local Town Council & Judges. I have to admit though, I often go into the voting booth and end up skipping entire rows because I don’t know enough about all of the different positions and the candidates for those positions to be able to cast an “honest” vote.

Luckily, there’s still time to learn more about candidates in your state and district. The League of Women Voters, for example, has this link for New York voters on their website (http://www.lwvny.org/) and I learned a lot from it…everything from polling places to what kinds of voting machines you’ll be using.

The League of Women Voters in Connecticut has a great site too. http://www.lwvct.org/ .  Their “online voters guide” is terrific! And Massachusetts voters can learn everything they need to know here: http://www.votinginfo.info/

Your local newspapers are helpful as well when considering local issues.  The main thing is to VOTE.

That said, we’re hoping our Fishs Eddy Democrat and Republican Mug Promotion isn’t an indicator of voter turnout this year.  Right now, our totally inaccurate Hammertown Poll shows the Democrats in the lead. To date we’ve sold 18 Democrat mugs and 8 Republican mugs.

We really do want to make a substantial donation to the League of Women Voters based on mug sales.  We’ll make one anyway but it would be great to do it based on customer participation…so if the political spirit moves you please do drop in and buy a Fishs Eddy political mug before November 4th.

Happy Halloween and Happy Voting!
