We have been stocking this London-based designer’s accessories for the past 5 years. Each season brings new, vibrant takes on Orla’s classic (and copied) patterns. From a design standpoint, the aesthetic is one where color, pattern, texture and graphic rhythm continually work together to create unique patterns. The interplay and relationships between all these elements are what give Orla Kiely such a recognizable design language. While there remains something vintage and 50′s about the colors and patterns themselves, the overall feeling is one of modern day optimism – just what we’re looking for at Hammertown.
Spring 2009 Orla Kiely designs have just arrived here at Hammertown and we are thrilled to have some bold, bright color to inject into these cold, winter days. This season’s take on Orla’s classic stem print is a lovely combination of color and neutrality with a simple cross-hatched background provided for the classic multicolored stems. Another print this season is a bright take on the pear print in a lovely yellow and raspberry red. We have matte laminated maxi sling bags (pictured here) in both patterns which include zip and cell phone pockets as well as a key chain and magnetic closure. The adjustable strap allows this practical style to work as a shoulder bag or across the body. I use mine as a diaper bag for my toddler….you would not believe how much stuff fits inside (Measurements: 12.5″L x 12″H x 4″W / Strap Length (max): 40″)! We also have the ever-popular “big zip” wallets and the stem print and fabulous tote bags in both patterns. This is just the beginning…styles will continue to arrive as our days grow longer and longer.
