The original Hammertown. Located just one mile east of the center of the hamlet of Pine Plains, this refurbished 18th century horse barn is where it all started 25 years ago. The Barn’s 2 floors feature an amazing array of home furnishings…sofas, chairs, lighting, rugs, a well-stocked kitchen section, Simon Pearce glassware, dishware from Fishs Eddy, cookbooks, design books, toys…it’s all at the Barn.
If you’re looking for a bite to eat before or after visiting the Barn be sure to stop by the Mountain Cow, the Stissing House or Lia’s Mountainview. Just a few miles south of Pine Plains in Bangall NY, you’ll also find the wonderful Red Devon Market Bar & Restaurant. Looking for something more physical? There are a number of beautiful hiking trails in and around Pine Plains including Thompson Pond, Stissing Mountain and Buttercup Sanctuary. And, Stissing Lake is the perfect spot for a picnic, swim or kayak during the summer.
We opened our Rhinebeck store just about 10 years ago and we never looked back. From the beginning Hammertown Rhinebeck had it’s own sense of identity and developed their own loyal following of customers. Our Rhinebeck store is also the home of Hammertown’s Gallery where we show the work of many talented local artists. Located on the banks of the majestic Hudson River, Rhinebeck has become one of the “hot spots” in Dutchess County. This beautiful historic area is a tourism destination boasting 437 National Historic Register sites, charming boutiques, numerous B&B’s and fabulous restaurants…some of our favorites are Gigi’s Trattoria, Terrapin, Arroi Thai and…there’s more. Also in Rhinebeck, the very cool and hip Upstate Films where you’ll see the latest independent and foreign films. And lest we forget…the famous Dutchess County Fairgrounds are also in Rhinebeck.
Our third Hammertown store is nestled in the beautiful Berkshires in the southwestern corner of Massachusetts (bordered by Connecticut to the south and New York to the west). This store too has its own distinct personality as well as its own following. Furniture takes center stage in our Great Barrington store with an incredible selection of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Cisco and Lee Industries furniture, as well as rugs and lighting. Great Barrington itself is loaded with historic sites and beautiful surroundings. Just north of Great Barrington is Stockbridge (home of the Red Lion Inn, Norman Rockwell Museum, Berkshire Theatre festival and the infamous, Alice’s Restaurant ) For the more active – The Berkshire Mts, Housatonic River, trails, and in the winter Butternut Mt. for skiing. Restaurants we love: Baba Louie’s, Café Adam, Aegean Breeze, The Old Mill and Route 7 Grill.
