RED DEVON MARKET, BAR & RESTAURANT

We’ve loved Red Devon since they first opened in February 2008. (You can read our review here)

Local Millbrook residents, Julia and Nigel Widdowson, have created a restaurant that not only uses seasonal, local & sustainable ingredients in the delicious food they serve but they have also made the extra effort to be responsible local stewards of the land from which that bounty comes. Vegetables come from local farms; meat from humanely-raised animals and even the building itself was constructed in an environmentally-responsible way; using local carpenters and old local barn wood to create their dining room; putting refrigerators in the basement to save energy and cooling water geothermally.

When we first visited Red Devon, they still hadn’t opened their restaurant but the Market Cafe was a real find. Their breakfasts and lunches were wonderful (and still are) and the bakery, sensational. (We’ll never forget the Red Devon Chili or the Roasted Red & Yellow Beet Salad!) So it wasn’t long before Red Devon had a large following.

The Restaurant & Bar opened to glowing reviews from customers and press alike (see here) and we couldn’t be happier to have them as one of our Choices. In fact, we love Red Devon so much, we sell their freshly baked baguettes every Saturday at Hammertown Barn in Pine Plains.

In addition to their Cafe and Restaurant, Red Devon also offers superb catering as well as delicious soups and entrees to take home with you on those nights when you don’t feel like cooking.

And here’s a tip just for you online readers: From 4 pm – 6 pm daily (Thur.-Mon), all fresh breads and pastries are 1/2 price at the Market Cafe!!
