B. Docktor Photos: “ I Love Where I Live: Local Animals and Landscapes”
Hammertown Gallery, Rhinebeck will feature a show of photographs by Ancram photographer B. Docktor. The stunning photos in this show capture the joys of life in the Hudson Valley – the dogs we love, the livestock we encounter on neighboring farms and the gorgeous landscape we have the pleasure of living in. The show will be on view from Saturday February 19th through May 31st, with an opening reception Saturday, March 19th from 5:30- 7pm. Hammertown friend Jean-Marie Truchard, founder of Lagniappe Wines, will enhance the opening with a showcase and tasting distinctive Napa Valley regional styles of Lagniappe Pinot Noir.
Photo Show: B. Docktor, award winning photographer, has been visually chronicling the Hudson Valley since the late 1980’s. This show features farm animals in the landscape, Joan’s dogs, and gorgeous landscapes and trees of Ancram and nearby towns. B. Docktor noted “My specialties are people & nature. My passion is to capture the essence of what I’m seeing in a way that will stop you, and make you say WOW: that’s stunningly gorgeous! or GEE: I feel like I was there! It’s all about beauty and joy.”
B has always loved photographing animals, especially dogs. These particular photos of sheep, cows (Herondale Farm), and goat (Coach Farm) were made this past year when the town of Ancram asked her to photograph farms for the Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan the town is working on. You may recognize photos of Abby and Etta, treasured Hammertown Barn resident dogs. B’s photo of Etta shopping online has become a touchstone for the online shopping section of Hammertown’s website.
B. Docktor is an unusually versatile photographer, with a B.S. in photojournalism from Syracuse University. Before moving fulltime to Ancram, she had a graphics and photography business in NYC. Her aerial photos helped to defeat the giant coal-burning St. Lawrence Cement Plant in Hudson. In addition to her gorgeous studies of nature, the range of her work also includes portraits, weddings, events, and dance photography.
